First Winter Swim Lesson

Brian and I have noticed that Jack has been increasingly enjoying his bath time, to the point that when I say it's time to get out, he repeats "No. No. No." in the most mournful and desperate way. We have finally discovered that letting the water out of the tub gives him sufficient time to process that he's going to have to get out without too much protest.

Anyway, with that kind of passion for water play, we decided to sign him up for another swim lesson. Being almost six months since his last lesson, he was understandably confused by the swim diaper, the pool, etc. When we first got in the pool, he clung to me like a little monkey and refused to relax his death grip around my neck. Soon, though, he was splashing happily, kicking his feet, and trying to blow bubbles in the water.

(Bubbles, by the way, are hilarious to watch: he seems to have forgotten this skill which he mastered easily last summer, and instead simply tries to stick his tongue in the water. I tried getting him to blow, like for a candle, but he does this without putting his face near the water. It's either a tongue in the water or a raspberry in my arms, not both.)

His favorite part was when we did "froggies". We put the kids (Jack is the youngest in the class this time) on the edge of the pool and then sing, "I'm a little froggie, yes sirree, I jump in on ONE. TWO. THREE." And then the babies jump in. Jack LOVED it. He smiled a huge smile and immediately demanded "UP." He wanted back up on the edge to jump in again, each time with a gigantic smile of glee.

Blowing bubbles. A.k.a., licking the water for Jack.
Froggies.
