We are so proud of Jack this week because he has been going to sleep on his own.
Up until now, we've always rocked him to sleep, but it has been getting increasingly harder to get him to wind down at the end of the night. So we finally decided to just put him in his room, tell him we know he can go to sleep on his own, that we love him and that we'll be in the next room. Amazingly, it worked.
The first night, it took about an hour and we had to listen to him sing "Ring Around the Rosie" to himself for a while, but he finally fell asleep.
The second night, I reminded him that he would be going to sleep on his own again and that we were so proud of what a big boy he was for going to bed himself last night. He got up once and I put him back in bed, and after that we didn't hear a peep. Since then, it's worked like a charm.
The true test will be this weekend when his grandma and grandpa are at the house. Will he be able to calm himself and fall asleep when he knows that exciting things are going on out in the living room? We'll see...
