Countdown to the Binky Ban

We have made the decision that at his third birthday, Jack will need to give up his binkies. He only uses them at night, but he is too reliant on them.

How we are going to do it is the question... here are some ideas:

1. We could have him "donate" them to kids who need them, like the twins next door. That way he feels good about helping others.

2. Jason Bateman said in an interview that he and his wife "planted" their kid's binkies and the next morning, their daughter found lollypops growing where the binkies were planted.

3. Ben's physical therapist said her brother moved to Florida and told their daughter that Florida doesn't allow binkies, so they threw them away at the Georgia border. (I'm not sure how we'd carry that sort of thing out, since we aren't moving.)

4. We've heard about people attaching binkies to a balloon in order to send the binkies up to heaven to the babies who haven't been born yet.

So, which should we do? Or do we just give Jack some tough love and tell him he's too big for binkies?

When we informed him that when he turns three he'll be too old for his binkies and he'd have to give them up, his response was: "After I have cake, I can have them back?" It might take a while for the concept to sink in.

Please vote in our poll at the right to see how we should eliminate the binky addiction.

The "Pacie Fairy" visited the kids I babysit for a few weeks ago and left 4 shiny quarters in the place of the binkie.
