On Saturday morning, he and I met my mom at MSU to participate in Small Animal Day. We rode a bus to various farms around campus (which most people don't realize at least 2/3 of which is farmland). We decided to skip the Pavilion, which is always crowded, in favor of the poultry farm and the horse farm. Jack got to see chicks and quails hatching inside incubators, he got to hold a baby goose (a gosling) and he saw a huge variety of chicken breeds, along with emu, geese, and turkeys. Although he was quite excited to pet the gosling (and I was thrilled because he has been asking for weeks now where the baby geese are whenever we see Canada geese on our pond), he drew the line at touching grown chickens. When the ag students offered to let him pet a hen or a rooster, he firmly put his hands behind his back and shook his head.
After the poultry farm, we rode the bus to the horse farm, which was a bit of a disappointment. Although we were able to see a lot of horses by walking through the barn, there weren't many interactive activities. We actually saw more horses last year when we went "behind the scenes" at the pavilion to see the 4H horses stabled there.
After Small Animal Day, we met Brian, Ben, and my dad at Leo's Lodge for lunch. Jack happily gobbled down his mac and cheese and chatted about the animals he had seen.
Today, we went to Palm Sunday mass, followed by lunch at Noodles & Co and shopping at Target. After we left Target, we decided to stop at Culver's for a custard and Jack got to eat a dish of custard in his car seat -- a rare treat. However, the busy morning took its toll before he was done with half of his custard, he was fast asleep in his car seat with his spoon dangling in front of him. I can't imagine falling asleep in the middle of ice cream, so he must have been exhausted.
