One Month Old: Our Little Party Pooper

Jackson turned one month old yesterday, and I can't believe how much he's grown since he was born. We had a well-baby check-up this morning and he weighed in at 9 pounds even, a gain of 3 pounds over his birth weight. The doctor said he was doing wonderfully and was right on track in terms of growth and development. We were thrilled to hear he was doing so well and gaining so quickly. Even better news is that now that he's older and gaining well, we can let him determine his own feedings, rather than waking him up if he hasn't asked to be fed within three or four hours. The doctor said we shouldn't let him sleep longer than six or seven hours without a feeding, which was music to the ears of parents who had spent the previous night waking up every three hours. Hopefully Jack will sleep well tonight. You can see from the picture that he was "pooped" out by his adventure today.

This weekend, Jackson will have a visit from his Grandma and Grandpa Fisher. I'm sure they'll be shocked by how much he has grown since they last saw him. He has all sorts of new skills to show them, too, like turning his head during tummy time and studying faces with his eyes, all important milestones for one month old babies.


This morning as we were getting ready for the visit to the doctor, we saw a doe and two fawns right outside our dining room window. It was really neat to see them so close, especially the twin fawns. In the picture, you can only see one fawn because the other is behind his mother. I'm really glad that Jack will grow up in a neighborhood where he'll be surrounded by wildlife, like the deer, the bunnies, and the wild turkeys. I'm less thrilled about the snapping turtles, but I guess we'll just have to teach him to avoid all turtles so he doesn't lose a digit.
