Two Months Old

This morning we took Jack to his two month pediatrician appointment. When Dr. Josh walked in the room, he shook our hands and then said hello in an animated way to Jackson. Our little charmer responded with a huge smile, which Dr. Josh says is pretty advanced for a two-month-old baby. He was also impressed with Jack's ability to stand and even move his feet with little support -- he says we may have an early walker on our hands, which means he's liable to be a handful. Jack is growing well at 22 3/4 inches and 10 pounds, 5 ounces. He's still just in the 50th and 25th percentile, but the doctor says he looks wonderful and we shouldn't be worried that he's small.

Jack appears to be meeting or exceeding all of his two month milestones, such as following people with his eyes, cooing (he says "ah-goo", "da-boo", and "ii-goo", combining syllables and adding consonants, which is also very advanced), and lifting his upper body when he's on his tummy. He's still trying really hard to roll over from his tummy to his back, which makes tummy time very frustrating for him. Typically he kicks his feet and lifts his legs and shoulders off the floor, rocking back and forth; finally he gets fed up (he has his mother's patience) and starts to cry in frustration until we roll him over.

This appointment also marked the first round of vaccinations for Jack. He got three shots and a liquid dose of Rotavirus vaccine, which he lapped up like a champ because it was sweet and yummy (much yummier than his vitamin). They warned us that he might be a little fussy or sleepy for the rest of the day, and so far sleep has won out. I gave him a dose of Tylenol when I got home (again, yummier than the vitamin, so he took it very calmly) and he's been sleeping peacefully ever since. Hopefully, he won't feel too uncomfortable today because if he's feeling alright, we'll be meeting his daddy for lunch with the rest of the NOISE staff, but I don't want to take him if he's feeling delicate. The poor guy has been through enough today without adding to it.
