Christmas Night

Around 10:30 on Christmas morning, we packed up the car and headed south to Dayton. Jack needed a break around Blissfield, so we stopped for lunch at a truck-stop McDonalds. Jack gobbled down some chicken nuggets and ate several apple slices, along with flicking a milk-filled straw at his daddy. Good times. :)

We arrived in Dayton around 4, with minimal complications, and got settled. Once Kelly and Ryan arrived, we enjoyed a quiet Christmas dinner. After normally eating with 22+ people at Christmas, it was different to only have eight of us around the table, but nice to be able to chat and catch up.

We opened presents after dinner, and Jack really enjoyed ripping into the bags and boxes. He did need to take a couple breaks, simply because he was getting overwhelmed by the number of presents he received. He was also a big help passing out the gifts, especially delivering the Santa presents. We noticed that he is definitely slow at unwrapping because he stops to put each torn piece of paper on the coffee table; a very long process. Some day I'm sure we'll be mourning how quickly he plows through his gift, never stopping to admire anything, but for right now, he unwraps everything slowly and would like to stop and play with everything individually before moving on the next package. Pretty cute.

Jack got lots of books, a couple puzzles, an Elmo puppet and "A Very Hungry Caterpillar" puppet, a new pair of fancy shoes, and several adorable outfits... but the present that made him most excited was the hangers included with his outfits. He immediately wanted to hang up his clothes on the nearest door handle. (This anal-retentive cleanliness warmed his mother's heart.)

We practiced all through Advent blowing out the Advent candles so that Jack would be ready to blow out the candle on the Jesus cake, and he performed his task admirably. After singing happy birthday to Jesus, Jack got his PJs on and went to sleep. A peaceful end to a long, eventful day.

Jack fell in love with Belle all over again, even to the point where he now recognizes her bark over the webcam. ("Belle! Woo woo woo!") He also fell in love with his grandma's dancing snowmen and begged anyone who would listen to play them over and over and over and over and over.
