But lately, we've been having trouble with naps. Some days he goes down without a fuss. Other days, I fight him until almost 4:00 to take a nap. So today, tired of fighting, we decided to simply inform him that he was a big boy and he was no longer required to take a nap. The rest of the family, however, do like naps, so he would still need to go to his room and play or read quietly until it was time to get up. We didn't care if he slept or not, but we didn't want to see or hear him.
As you can imagine, he reveled in his newfound independence and chose to play. The result was not pretty. And he fell asleep halfway through dinner. We watched as his eyes kept staying closed longer and longer every time he blinked; pretty soon, he put his head down on his arm. His eyes flickered open a bit when we started giggling, but soon, not even our chuckles could keep him awake.
